Finishing Supervisor Job Summary
A custom furniture manufacturer in Grand Rapids is seeking a Finishing Supervisor to manage finishing production in a wood manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on position in the finishing department and involves both supervisory responsibilities and finishing work.

Finishing Supervisor Responsibilities
- Review and catalog existing finish formulas
- Manage production team to improve productivity in the finishing process
- Improve the finishing department’s capabilities
- Ensure quality control in the finishing department including review and inspection of processes in sample and product development, prior to shipping and after delivery.
- Regularly review and reformulate finish formulas to take advantage of any process improvements.
- Update and maintain finishing procedures, standards, and step samples.
- Develop and implement new techniques to treat and finish wood materials on existing industrial finishing processes.
- Research and report on new finishing materials, looks, and treatments.
- Communicate effectively on the turnaround time of custom samples.
- Identify and apply cell resources to fulfill production requirements.
- Maintain proper raw material/ inventory stock levels
- Confirm inbound specs-based off production work orders
- Assist in setting up finishing line to ensure that production and quality are met.
- Finish to the specified quality. Identify bad product and make necessary adjustments using problem-solving methods.
- Ensure that all OSHA standards are met
- Keep finishing and surrounding area clean
- Meet daily production targets
- Set up SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) in the finishing department and on new finishing practices Communicate effectively with Production Manager (production lead times, quality issues, etc.)
- Have the ability to learn all production processes and assist when needed to help the company succeed
Finishing Supervisor Qualifications
- HS diploma or GED
- 3+ years of wood finishing experience
- 1+ years of team leader or supervisory experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with many different personality types at all levels of the organization
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Position Type: Full-time, contract to hire
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7am – 3:30pm
Pay: $21.00 - $25.00/HR based on experience and qualifications
