DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
The EHS Specialist based in Grand Haven, MI provides functional direction and training in the application of the EHS process and programs. The EHS Specialist develops, implements and maintains programs, systems and procedures necessary to ensure the overall environment, health, and safety performance of the unit.
Responsibilities:
* Investigates incidents, injuries and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; support root cause analysis.
* Prepares appropriate regulatory reports and develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.
* Ability to exercise judgment and make decisions in low to moderate levels of ambiguity; implements agreed upon decisions.
* Responsible for moderately complex technical work in a wide range of environmental, health and safety disciplines under limited supervision to achieve compliance with the organization's EHS requirements.
* Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
* Routinely engages (communicate, influence, collaborates) with Plant/Site employees and Plant/Site Leadership.
* Individual Contributor; ability to influence employees, supervisors, and site leadership. May act as a lead person or technical expert and provides functional direction and training in the application of higher level EHS process and programs.
* Support environmental compliance plans and provide assistance in the development of regulatory reports and environmental permitting.
* Participate on EHS compliance audits.
* Development and implement training programs for all EHS topics, safety procedures, inspection programs and maintenance of appropriate and required records.
* Maintain appropriate coordination with the facility contract nurse and any other medical treatment centers utilized by the location.
* Oversee the administration of the workers compensation program, including investigations into terminations and accidents, attendance at hearings, filing of appropriate appeals, reports and record keeping.
* Assist in coordinating and implementing the emergency response system to be used in case of fire, chemical spill or release, power outage, etc.
