GENERAL SUMMARY:
The staff Radiologic OR Technologist is specially trained to work in the Operating Room using mobile fluoroscopic equipment. Technologists must operate equipment within a sterile environment to assist in surgical procedures accurately and efficiently. They must demonstrate a high level of critical thinking and image evaluation to obtain specialized and/or non-standard views of patient anatomy for surgical procedures with minimal direction. Follows Beaumont philosophy of Patient and Family Centered Care at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
•
Performs quality diagnostic exams after verification of patient identification and physician order.
•Proficiently operates diagnostic imaging equipment within the operating suite.
•Must be cognizant of the sterile field at all times, including keeping the imaging equipment sterile with movement required for the surgical procedure.
•Must be intuitive, anticipating the needs of the surgeon to help reduce surgical times.
•Must assist the surgeon in vital decision-making processes, such as but not limited to the positioning of surgical markers to verify spinal levels and to adjust imaging equipment according to the needs of the surgeon.
•Uses ALARA standards for minimizing radiation exposure to the patient, staff in the OR room and self.
•Monitors patients during procedures to ensure patient safety.
•Contributes to the effective operations of the department by assisting fellow employees and staying in compliance with quality assurance and quality control.
•Ability to accurately and efficiently use hospital computer systems for verifying orders, viewing schedules and sending information to PACS.
•Assists in the training of students/new hires.
•Ensures equipment is wiped down between patients.
•Maintains competency in all assigned areas including fluoroscopic, general diagnostic, orthopedic and operating procedures.
•Effectively communicates on an inter/intra-departmental level with customer service, administrative, medical staff, and peers.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS
•
Graduate of Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) Accredited Radiography program.
•
Training gained at student level.
•
Certification by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; Must remain in good standing with the ARRT.
•
Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers from The American Heart Association at hire.
•
Specialized knowledge of multiple surgical procedures requiring the proper use of C-arms, O-arms, digital plain film x-rays, and specialized vascular equipment.

Must operate within high stress, fast paced atmosphere presented in the OR
