DESCRIPTION: ArcelorMittal Global Research & Development Center is looking for a highly skilled and motivated engineer to be a part of the team focused on cost-efficient and light-weight steel design concepts for future vehicles that support ArcelorMittal s strategic objectives and steel product portfolio, so that sheet steel products remain the material of choice, and ArcelorMittal the preferred steel supplier. The engineer will be an integral member of the Steel Solutions and Co-engineering team at ArcelorMittal and will be required to work from both automakers engineering facilities and ArcelorMittal s Detroit area offices. JOB DUTIES: * Develop solutions for and promote lightweight steel architecture for automotive OEMs future vehicle architectures utilizing strong knowledge of body design and assembly * Uitilize knowledge of product design and design for manufacturing concepts to maturate manufacturing feasible designs * Utilize Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) simulations to evaluate body structure design concepts, recommend changes to design, materials, assembly processes etc. No prior expertise in CAE is required, candidates will be trained in this skill as necessary. * Assist in activities pertaining to prototyping, testing, validation and correlation of body structure concepts * Leverage and promote current and emerging ArcelorMittal high strength steel grades, hot stamping, laser welded blank and tubular technologies. * Recognize threats to steel by other materials (e.g. aluminum, composites, magnesium), develop and recommend competitive steel solutions for future vehicle applications * Establish strong and sustainable positive relationships with design and product development engineers at our strategic automotive customers * Participate in projects and research activities with global R&D teams EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred) in Engineering or Applied Science in the field of Mechanical or Materials MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: * Strong knowledge of automotive body structure design and assembly * Knowledge of automotive sheet steel products, properties, and applications * Knowledge of manufacturing processes like stamping, roll-forming and welding * Familiarity with Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools and methodologies is required * 2 years of relevant industry experience with an automotive OEM, tier supplier or a design consultancy company * Strong engineering, creative, analytical and problem-solving skills. * Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple demands. * Strong oral and written communication skills. * Good interpersonal skills and a high level of integrity. * Ability to work effectively in a team environment. * Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision * Must be open to travel as required to ArcelorMittal s facilities in USA, Canada and France as well as customer locations PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: * Knowledge of CAD * Knoweledge of CAE * Knowledge of automotive crash regulations If a candidate needs an accommodation to complete any part of the application process due to a disability or medical condition, he or she may call 312-899-3097, or email CandidateRequest-USA@arcelormittal.com to communicate your accommodation request.
