The Pre-Program Approval Vehicle Cost Engineer (VCE) is responsible for compiling competitive cost data from a third party with understanding and compare to internal vehicles for cost, weight or innovative opportunities for new vehicles. Responsibilities may include analyzing and validating material cost and supplier tooling estimate/target data for vehicle programs up to and including the program approval milestone. Activity begins with initial vehicle concept and continues through program approval.
The VCE will work within the VCE cost development process, including usage of tools to extract cost data from existing FCA systems (i.e. Fastcar2, A2MAC1, VAMR, Teamcenter) to validate costs relative to content and design. The validation results will then be used to create reports that are used to prepare for product committee presentations. The VCE will work with multiple cross-functional organizations and all levels of management from executives to product design and release engineers.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited university; or Bachelor’s degree in Business/Finance/Accounting
• 5 years of automotive industry experience at an OEM or large tier 1 to include one or more of the following areas:
• Engineering program management (technical or financial)
• Vehicle program management (technical or financial)
• Engineering design and development
• Strong background with Excel and PowerPoint
• Experience with management of large data sets
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Strong working knowledge of automotive systems and components
• Experience with FCA bill of material system
• Experience with cost estimation
• Ability to present ideas and concepts successfully to all levels of management
• Ability to productively manage change
• Ability to motivate and lead people that do not report directly to you
• Familiarity with finance terminology
• Experience using financial management systems (Fastcar2, PentaSAP, Teamcenter, VAMR)
