The Powertrain Thermal Architecture Engineer functions as the central point of contact for the thermal system of a specific production engine/vehicle program. The Thermal Architect leads a cross-functional working-level team of engineers across many different powertrain and vehicle groups, providing system level technical guidance, coordination of development tasks, and information sharing regarding program updates and impact to the thermal system.
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university or equivalent
•Minimum 5 years of industry engineering experience
•Minimum 2 years of experience with thermal system or thermal component development for vehicle systems
•Demonstrated experience managing projects involving a cross-functional group of working-level peer colleagues
•Demonstrated experience with physical testing of thermal systems or thermal components, including instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing
•Demonstrated understanding of the design release role, or similar role on a production-path powertrain or vehicle program
•Demonstrated experience working with a simulation team to set up analyses, define boundary conditions, correlate models, and conduct sensitivity studies
•Demonstrated proficiency in leading group meetings to coordinate tasks and communicate key project information to the project team
•Excellent problem solving skills, analytical skills, teamwork skills, and the ability to think independently
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in presentations to upper management
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent Engineering degree with focus on fluid dynamics, combustion, or heat transfer from an ABET accredited university or equivalent
•Master’s degree in Business Administration with a focus on project management and/or program management
•At least 5 years of experience with development of full vehicle thermal systems on light duty passenger cars or trucks
•At least 5 years of experience managing projects involving a cross-functional group of working-level peer colleagues
•At least 4 years of experience with physical testing of thermal systems or thermal components, including instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing
•Experience leading thermal system development for powertrain or vehicle through production launch
•Experience operating simulation tools to conduct engineering analysis for design decision making
