Who we are:
Founded in 1937, MSU Federal Credit Union is owned and operated by members of the Michigan State University and Oakland University communities. We offer financial services to MSU and OU faculty, staff, students, alumni association members, and their families as well as a variety of select employee groups.
A day in the life of a Mortgage Processor:
The Mortgage Processor is responsible for processing mortgage loan applications to closing. Establishes loan files and orders/collects documentation required to process both first mortgage loans and home equity loans. The mortgage processor is accountable for the accuracy and completeness of all loan documentation and for processing loans.
Responsibilities:
Mortgage Processor I:
•Reconciles mortgage application to credit report, Verification of Employment, Verification of Deposit and Verification of Mortgage and prepares mortgage file for underwriting
•Works with Mortgage Loan Officer in communicating with members during mortgage process
•Expected to return e-messages, phone messages and emails from members by the end of the day to ensure clear concise communication
•Available and logged into the phones a minimum of 3-4 hours per day
•Maintain an up to date pipeline report of all files in process
•Average number of processed and funded files as outlined in the Mortgage Positions Thresholds guideline
•Notifies Mortgage Manager/Assistant Mortgage Manager of any unusual delays or problems in the application process for additional follow-up
•Works daily, monthly and yearly reports in a timely fashion
•Creates mortgage files for loans sold per secondary market vendor guidelines
•Orders appraisals, title searches, flood certificates, surveys and credit reports. Prepares mortgage file for Private Mortgage Insurance coverage.
•Reconciles the assigned general ledgers within the time frame established by accounting
•Attends onsite events and networking events to build relationships with third parties
•Answers inquiries and communicates with members, Realtors, vendors, appraisers, etc., to insure all are kept up to date with the status of each mortgage file
•Use good problem solving skills and good judgment to independently resolve member service complaints or errors; management authorizes employee to expend up to $50 when applicable to place the credit union in a better position or to resolve problem situations with members; recommends solutions to the department manager for higher amounts
•Assists members achieving financial security through the offering of our many products and services
•Have a positive attitude, treat members, staff and third parties in an acceptable friendly professional manner and seeks out additional duties or projects during down times
•Meets expectations regularly in regards to goals, member expectations and duties
•Participate in training activities within your department or branch and with the learning and talent development department; such training helps to ensure staff compliance with Credit Union policies and state and federal regulations and laws
•Perform other duties and assist other employees, as assigned
Mortgage Processor II:
•All of Mortgage Processor I duties and responsibilities
•Consistently maintain a positive attitude, treat members, staff and third parties in an exceptional manner and actively seeks out additional duties or projects
•Actively communicates problems, concerns and opportunities during the course of a work day which will improve the department and or credit union
•Exceeds expectations regularly in regards to goals, member expectations and duties
•Individual will excel in assisting members achieve financial security through the offering of our many products and services
•Uses problem solving skills and good judgment to independently resolve member service complaints or errors; management authorizes employee to expend up to $100.00 when applicable to place the credit union in a better position or to resolve problem situation with members
Senior Mortgage Processor:
•All of Mortgage Processor I and II duties and responsibilities
•Assists in the training of new Processors in the department
•Uses problem solving skills and good judgment to independently resolve member service complaints or errors; management authorizes employee to expend up to $200.00 when applicable to place the credit union in a better position or to resolve problem situation with members
•Consistently is a top performer in cross selling
•Attends realtor networking activities on occasion
•Receives referrals from Realtors and third parties regularly on a monthly basis
What you can bring to MSUFCU:
Mortgage Processor I:
•Knowledge of state and federal lending regulations as follows: Truth-in-Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Housing Act, Flood Disaster Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Rights to Financial Privacy Act, Home Mortgage Disclosure Act, Frank Dodd Act, and Regulation Z
•High school diploma or equivalent and related real estate finance courses to be knowledgeable and to deal effectively with people
•One to two years of mortgage experience preferred
•College related courses are desirable
•Good communication and interpersonal skills
•Must have flexibility to work normal credit union hours including after 5:00 and on Saturdays
Mortgage Processor II:
•All of Mortgage Processor I knowledge, skills, and abilities
•Has above average communication skills evidenced by low member complaints and positive member feedback
•Good understanding of conventional regulations and PMI guidelines. Regularly attends trainings and educational events.
Senior Mortgage Processor:
