Job Description
Position: Tool Room Engineer (2nd Shift)
Description
•Responsible for all aspects of in-house tool manufacturing and repair
•Supervise journeyman toolmakers, programmers, and machine tool operators during your shift of operation
•Lead tool room to ensure all tooling, gages, and fixtures for use in manufacturing are produced on time, at cost, and meeting EH&S standards
•Coordinate with Tool Room Manager, engineering, quality, and manufacturing functions to provide uninterrupted production of stamped and molded components
•Assist with purchasing raw material, equipment, tooling, and services
•Implement and coordinate continuous improvements and best practices
•Coordinating apprentice training and introducing improved methods, working practices, and processes
Job Requirements
•Contribute to creation and implementation of best practice tool room vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to improve operational performance
•Strong ability to use independent judgment in determining methods and processes
•Engineering and/or toolmaking experience, with an emphasis on stamping or molding, is desired
•Supervision of journeyman toolmakers, programmers, and machine operators
•Manage projects varying in scale from emergency repairs to full die build
•Contribute to plant-level improvement projects and integrate tool room activities into overall plant objectives
•Knowledge of manufacturing processes, work methods, and production flow
•Must be able to assess work requirements where equipment and tooling repair or replacement are required to maintain production schedules
•Supervise activities of the tool room and toolmakers, ensuring the tool room is a safe environment in line with health, safety and environmental requirements
•Assist with troubleshooting for all equipment.
•Help to maintain inventory of tooling, tool room equipment, and select production supplies
•Evaluate equipment needs and budgets to drive efficient use of resources
•Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and documents
•Drive 5S, Lean, and improvement activities to maintain effectiveness, organization, and cleanliness of tool room
•CAD skills and knowledge of CNC principles required
•Ability to use database and MS Office products required
•Conduct risk assessments of processes and tasks in the department
•Perform other duties as required by plant management
•Strong skills in oral and written communication
•Comply with and lead improvements to Environment, Health, and Safety {EH&S}rules and procedures.
•4-year college degree in Engineering or a related field preferred
•Prior experience supervising a manufacturing tool room preferred
