Summary:
The Student Support Specialist will support participating districts to identify general education students who need mental health support. This position will be directly involved with developing treatment plans and interventions, servicing students directly, and coordinating communication with parents, staff and administration.
Job Qualifications:
- Must be certified (certificate, license, or registration) under one of the following credentials:
- A valid Michigan school psychologist certificate or a preliminary school psychologist certificate;
- A valid Michigan School Social Worker License and full approval as a School Social Worker
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
General Responsibilities:
- Assess nature of students’ situations by interviewing and reviewing personal history.
- Develop, and execute individual treatment plans by providing direct service to students.
- Collect data regarding student progress and communicate student updates to all relevant parties.
- Support the facilitation of the child study process including interpretation of data and the development of treatment plans, coordinate with parents, staff and administration.
- Maintain accurate student case notes and documentation.
- Provide diagnostic/consultative services including intervention designs such as Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plan development.
- Bill for Medicaid services.
- Function as a liaison between home, school and community agencies.
- Continue professional growth through participation in professional development opportunities and professional associations, keeping a record of all professional activities.
- Keep credentials updated and current.
- Provide in-service training to teachers, administrators, and other individuals, as appropriate.
- Maintain attendance and punctuality.
- Adhere to Board Policies and Guidelines.
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional Services.
