Position Summary
The Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education at Michigan State University (MSU), a national leader in teacher preparation and research on teaching, curriculum, policy, and international education, is seeking an experienced tenure-system assistant professor faculty member for world language teacher education, with a preference for candidates with some experience as a higher education faculty member. MSU offers teacher certification in Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic. A successful candidate will have opportunities to engage in research, teaching, and program development related to world language teacher education, and to collaborate with internationally recognized faculty in research and program development. Since 1995, MSU’s graduate programs in elementary and secondary education have been ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report. The Department of Teacher Education has an exemplary teacher preparation program (including robust cohorts in Urban Education and Global Education). We have a large, online master’s program in Teaching and Curriculum, and a nationally ranked doctoral program that provides extensive funding for students and prepares them to become outstanding leaders in their fields. This is an academic year position with a proposed starting date of August 16, 2020.
Major responsibilities for this position include: (a) leading the world language K-12 teacher education program (approximately 20 teacher candidates per year), which includes collaborating with other faculty in program development and supervision of world language teaching-methods instructors; (b) conducting innovative, rigorous research; (c) teaching undergraduate, master''s, and doctoral courses; (d) advising graduate students; and (e) contributing to inter- and intra-university and/or school-university partnerships.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree or show evidence that their degree will be completed by August 2020, in a field relevant to world language teacher education. Applicants should provide evidence of research and teaching accomplishments relevant to: (a) working with K-12 teachers, students, and/or teacher education candidates in culturally diverse settings; and (b) educational research mentoring and the development of scholars (e.g., advising undergraduate and graduate students). Applicants should also provide evidence of (c) a strong record of research, publication, and involvement in language-teacher-education research and practice (commensurate with experience); (d) ability to contribute to strengths and initiatives in areas such as teacher preparation and induction, urban education, equity and social justice, global education, educational policy, and/or educational applications of technology; (e) experience in, or potential for, teaching in a range of modalities (e.g., face to face, online, hybrid); and, (f) expertise in current critical language issues (e.g., translanguaging, multi-literacies, varieties of language, affect theory, embodied education).
Desired Qualifications
Preferred applicants will have at least two years of higher education experience at the assistant professor level (or equivalent) with a record of scholarly activities in world languages teacher education or a related field. Preferred qualifications include K-12 teaching experience, world language teaching experience, online teaching experience, community engagement work, applying for and securing grant funding, and proficiency in more than one language.
