Position Summary
In immediate opening is available for a Research Associate (Post-Doctoral) in the Neubig Lab (Pharmacology & Toxicology, Michigan State University, East Lansing MI).
Seeking a candidate with strong experience in biochemistry, molecular pharmacology, and/or gene transcription mechanisms. Specific expertise in recombinant protein expression (especially mammalian or insect cells) as well as protein purification, biophysical analysis of protein structure/function, and small molecule binding analysis are desirable.
The ideal candidate will provide strong evidence of research productivity and drive. Recent PhD graduates preferred. The project relates to recently identified small molecule inhibitors of the Rho/MRTF/SRF gene transcription pathway (PMID: 23707258). They have been shown to have preclinical activity in fibrotic disease models and cancer metastasis (PMID: 24706986, 27837031). Based on the discovery of Pirin as a novel molecular target for these compounds (https://tinyurl.com/pirinpaper) and a role for pirin in the actions of multiple transcription factors including NF-kB, the candidate will undertake purification of pirin and characterize its interactions with and modulation of gene transcription. Interactions with and modulation by our small molecule inhibitors will also be explored.
