Job Description SummaryAAM is seekign a Buyer at our Southfield Business Office. Responsible for purchasing direct material outside processing requirements (i.e. heat treat, machining, cutting, etc.) and miscellaneous purchased parts.
Job Description
•Responsible for commercial activities associated with supplier selection and negotiations
•Work with the Metal Forming cross functional team members to develop and source outside processing supply requirements
•Participate in technical reviews as coordinated by Supplier Quality
•Develop and maintain benchmark data for use in comparison of AAM current and future costs
•Keep abreast of industry developments within the commodities you control
•Understand world-class suppliers and markets for competitiveness and global presence/capabilities if relevant
•Understand manufacturing requirements to ensure compliance by supply base and consistency with AAM standards and procedures
•Compile analysis with sourcing documentation and recommendations for sourcing
•Ensure all proposals are quoted/issued on contract following sourcing guidelines
•Issue purchase order contracts and long term agreements as deemed necessary
•Work with the plant to track the launch/ramp up of newly sourced parts/programs
•Support plant materials to assure deliveries satisfy plant and end customer needs
•Establish future strategies for major commodities: heat treat and outside machining
•Monitor all supplier payments so assure payments are made within terms. Trouble shoot and resolve any discrepancies
•Assist in the area of supplier quality when issues arise, including cost recovery negotiations if appropriate
•Analyze and communicate supplier performance through system metrics, data and reports
•Maintain purchase price and manufacturing price trends and analysis
•Have a good understanding of typical contract language
•Ability to work within high-paced and/or time-constrained situations
•Computer skills mandatory - analysis, presentations, system purchase orders, RFQs, data gathering, etc.
•Travel required to supplier facilities and plant manufacturing locations
•All other duties as assigned to support the needs of the business
Required Skills and Education
•Bachelor Degree in Business or another business related major
•Minimum 3-5 years of automotive purchasing experience
•Automotive industry experience preferred
•Knowledge of basic purchasing policies & procedures
•Negotiation skills
•Ability to interpret and negotiate contracts
•Knowledge of database systems, preferably Plex
•Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
•Intermediate level computer skills required
•Good oral and written communication skills required
•High degree of planning and organization skills required
•Research skills
•Strategic sourcing skills
•Financial Analysis skills
•E Procurement Experience Preferred
•MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint)
