Personal Banker
SUMMARY
This role will cover a broad range of activities in the branch. The Personal Banker is responsible for providing an exceptional in-branch customer experience by handling every customer need from sales to service. Utilizing a needs-based selling approach, the Personal Banker will provide solutions based on customer needs. This position requires an independent thinker with strong decision making skills that can also maintain operational integrity of the branch. Time spent in various aspects of this role will vary depending upon branch traffic and needs and the role of other teammates in the branch. Proportion of time spent on each function will vary day to day.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Establish new banking relationships with customers ensuring they are offered all the products and services that are appropriate given their financial needs.
- Retain and deepen existing customer relationships through a needs based selling approach and delivering exceptional customer experiences. Identifies customer needs and matches needs with appropriate product or service, utilizing opportunities to suggest or cross-sell other bank products and services.
- Provide account servicing and maintenance and assist with problem resolution for customers in accordance with all established procedures and regulations.
- Process transactions accurately, assist with operational activities/responsibilities and maintain flexibility between performing teller and sales-related transactions.
- Must possess a strong knowledge of products and services offered.
- Meets or exceeds branch sales goals by making qualified referrals.
- Logs customer interactions, referrals and sales into the Mercantile Customer Relationship System (360 View) with good follow-up.
- As necessary, may interview loan customers, approve credits within loan policy, and prepare legal and financial documentation necessary to process the loan. Assist management by responding to customer inquiries regarding rates and applications.
- Maintains compliance with Bank policies, procedures and operational integrity. Adheres to audit requirements. Performs key security procedures and ensures proper controls are in place to limit risk exposure to the Bank. Must comply with BSA/AML/OFAC regulations and guidelines. May be asked to disseminate information on procedural and operational changes/updates to branch staff through weekly meetings.
- Works as a team player to assist co-workers and managers in completing daily branch tasks and responsibilities.
- Promotes positive bank image within the community which may include representing the bank in local organizations and events.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A proven history of successful selling with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be/become registered and licensed in the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) as required by the S.A.F.E. Act.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
