Journeyman’s card in electronics, electrical, or related trade and/or six to eight years of relevant experience in the trade.
For an employee to qualify for a class A (electrician) skill level, the employee, along with general maintenance knowledge must be able to perform the following: read electrical schematics, have residential and/or industrial wiring skills, power distribution skills, electronic circuit board repair skills, power distribution skills, along with general machine repair skills.
In addition, the successful candidate should have a demonstrated proficiency in the following areas:
- Explosion proof systems ranging from three-phase 480 volt transformers to low volt intrinsically safe instrumentation
- Analog, digital and hardwired circuit experience
- Test equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meter, meggers)
- Programmable logic controllers
- AC and DC drive installation, programming, and troubleshooting
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic schematics
- Ability to setup, bench testing, and troubleshoot components would be a plus
- Troubleshoot relay logic
- Color Vision: electricians work with colored wiring and must be able to identify them by sight.
- Troubleshooting: electricians must be able to find the root cause of issues and think logically about solutions.
- Customer Service: electricians work for many different internal customers, and must be friendly when working on site.
- Critical Thinking: When diagnosing problems, electricians must think critically in their process of repairing the issue.
- Mechanical Skills: electricians read blueprints and schematics and use an array of tools and diagnostic devices to service and install electrical parts.
