GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Electrodiagnostic Technologist I is an entry to mid-level position in the neurodiagnostic unit or department. The Electrodiagnostic Technologist I will perform electroencephalogram procedures according to facility policy and procedures. The Electrodiagnostic Technologist I will maintain safety during clinically significant events, and other duties. Communication skills are essential for this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Performs neurodiagnostic tests in Outpatient and Inpatient settings including all patient floors and /or EMU according to American Clinical Neurophysiology Society (ACNS) Guidelines on patients of all age groups (Adult and Pediatric-Site Specific), hospital, and department standards.
The major categories of procedures performed are (Site Specific):
* Routine Electroencephalogram (EEG)
* Ambulatory Electroencephalogram
* Continuous Electroencephalogram (CEM) & Long-Term Video Electroencephalogram
Ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 System; is knowledgeable in correct EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results; maintains the patient's safety through communication to other patient care support staff during the EEG if needed; continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant terminology, anatomy, physiology , infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindication for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use; performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive function; knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored.
Completion of testing for reports, charging procedures, contacts supervisory staff as appropriate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies, prepares patient rooms, and any other related duties that are consistent with patient and technical care for this level.
Eligible to train to perform advanced neurodiagnostics, i.e. epilepsy monitoring, vision testing, and clinical evoked potentials.
After hour call coverage required (Site Specific).
The ability to precept new hires. Provide on-line graphic analysis and technical impression of test results.
Trouble-shooting/problem solving and offer solutions.
Follows department policies and procedures.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
* Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Graduated from Electroneurodiagnostic program preferred.
* Work Experience: Minimum of six months of clinical testing preferred.
* Certification, Licensure, Registration: American Heart Association Basic Life Support
* Other Qualifications: Knowledge of EEG patterns and maturation changes. Knowledge and application of basic electrical and electronics principles, digital computer techniques, some software languages, keyboard skills, and understanding interface problems existing between highly sensitive electronic equipment and the patient.
