Department SummaryThe Real Estate Acquisition Group is responsible for acquiring all land rights for the construction, operation and maintenance of Consumers Energy electric and gas utility assets throughout the state of Michigan. The land rights routinely acquired include but are not limited to easements for electric pole lines and gas mains; and fee property acquisitions for electric substations, gas compressor stations, and corporate office buildings.Job Description/ResponsibilitiesAs a member of the Real Estate team, this individual manages team members responsible for obtaining the land rights necessary for construction, operation and maintenance of high voltage electric assets, corporate facilities and various environmental projects.
Areas of responsibility include but may not be limited to;
•Serves as a single point of contact between the Real Estate Acquisition Team and high voltage distribution, environmental and facilities project personnel.
•Creates strategy, process and procedures related to the acquisition of land rights related to high voltage electric projects.
•Leads and develops a team of high level staff and contractors to acquire all real estate interests for Consumers Energy.
Requirements/Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in an applicable field. Less than a Bachelor's degree may be acceptable if accompanied by extensive Company or industry experience in positions that demonstrate required abilities and performance.
•8-10 Yrs. Experience in Right of Way Industry (electric / pipeline specific)
•Michigan Real Estate Salesperson License - Required to perform certain real estate transactions. Not essential pre-qualification, but must be able to obtain within 1 yr.

• SR/WA (Senior Member Right of Way Association) designation - Specialty certification.
•Proven Leadership Skills - Ability to lead, coach & mentor employees
•Knowledge of utility/pipeline construction methods
•Expert Witness Testimony Experience
Essential Functions:
•Advanced Knowledge of Property Rights / Property Interests - Developing sound business decisions and programs related to complex property rights.
•Strong knowledge of real estate law & transaction experience - Fundamental knowledge base
•Strong Communication Skills - Ability to lead, motivate and influence others. Ability to communicate at multiple levels across the organization, including senior management.
•Advanced Negotiation Skills - Negotiation of complex transactions with key clients / landowners or governmental entities.
•Ability to read and interpret real estate documents and legal descriptions.
•Analytical Thinker / Problem Solving Skills - Ability to identify key transaction elements, understand potential impacts and develop sound solutions.
•Action Oriented - Ability to quickly analyze and move to resolution to meet project deadlines.
