Position Description:
Individual will be responsible for designing and performing non-routine chemical analysis and physical testing on materials, including polymers, adhesives, coatings, functional fluids, metals, and surface treatments.
Individual will be responsible for operation and maintenance of chemical analysis equipment, including but not limited to ICP-OES, FTIR spectrometers, GC/MS chromatograph, DSC/TGA instrumentation, flammability testers, and peripheral equipment necessary to perform job functions.
Individual will perform wet chemical analysisfor tests where instrumental methods are unavailable.
Individual will provide support to vehicle engineering design teams in the areas of non-metallic material testing and analysis, adhesives, coatings, flammability, and surface treatment.
Individual will provide support to advanced Research and Development programs as necessary in the area of chemistry and nonmetallic materials
Individual will be responsible for lab procedure documentation and ISO 9001 compliance in their area of work
Individual will support the Hazardous Material Managment Plan activities and provide support to the creation of product deliverables and internal reports.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Chemistry or Material Science.
Good working knowledge of spectroscopy over the UV and lower wavebands.
Hands-on experience in performing advanced instrumental qualitative and quantitative analysis, along with the ability to handle chemicals and perform wet chemistry analysis.
Primarily laboratory and office environment. Includes periodic light lifting, up to 30 lbs.
Working understanding of windows based PC and associated business software is required.
Occasional domestic travel.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed.
Ability to work alone, in a self-motivated fashion is essential.
Must be US Citizen. Ability of obtain a security clearance is required
The ability to climb on/off, work in, and work around military vehicles is desired.
Knowledge of EPA/OSHA/MIOSHA standards, haz/mat management, and SDS record keeping desired, but not required.
