Job Description:
Position Summary:
As a Director of System Architecture, HARMAN X, you will guide a matrixed, cross-functional team to define and document solution architectures for innovation projects that HARMAN X decides to pursue. You will define core technologies, technology enablers, and solution architectures that leverage new and existing platforms and technologies that drive innovation into HARMAN business units as well as expand HARMAN's intellectual property portfolio. You will be actively involved in HARMAN's strategy and roadmap process and drive, among others, HARMAN's future product and solution strategies, solution architecture, and core technology enablers.
You must possess a unique blend of business and technical savvy, a big-picture vision, and the drive to make that vision a reality. You must enjoy spending time in the market to understand what the customer and business units are trying to achieve and find solutions that drive innovation and growth.
You must be well-spoken and able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization - both within HARMAN, with key partners, and at the customer. You will collaborate with other organizations to define technical requirements, solution architectures, and validation requirements. You will also serve as the internal and external evangelist for HARMAN X and work closely with the customer, partners, and other HARMAN teams to execute on programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This person will initially act as an individual contributor and therefore have no direct reports.
He/She will, however, will lead and collaborate with colleagues from the Business Units as well as others in HARMAN X and thus must have the necessary experience to influence and drive the right outcome.
Financial Responsibility:
This position does not have any direct P&L responsibility.
Job Responsibilities:
Work closely with HARMAN senior management and engineering, product management, , customers, and suppliers to analyze, interpret, and develop/define the systems-level architectures and roadmap for future HARMAN X innovations that expand HARMAN's product and intellectual property portfolio that position HARMAN to win future business.
Be a visible point of contact between HARMAN X, the business units, and the customer - including driving customer presentations, leading regular interactions, ensuring timely and accurate customer responses, and communicating HARMAN's technical expertise and architectures.
Drive architectural design and documentation for all HARMAN X automotive projects.
Keep HARMAN's innovation projects at the leading edge of technology.
Identify architectural constraints for the system level based on customer, market, technology and business needs
Define and create system and overall software architecures
Guide the team in developing Proof of Concepts (PoCs) as well as demos for customers and other industry events
Investigate, invent, incubate, and drive to commercialization new technologies into HARMAN portfolio
Prototype and develop solutions to continue learning and provide guidance to the team
Oversee technical work of teams that are working on HARMAN X projects
Analyze critical problems and determines priority calls to drive resolution
Participate in software architecture, design and code reviews as software expert
Present technical solutions and architectures to internal and external stakeholders
Participate on industry standards and committees
Basic Qualifications:
Masters degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering
15+ years of software development experience
7+ years in a System Architect role defining platforms for Software Product Lines
Proven hands-on software development expertise
Extensive experience in consulting and/or client-facing role is preferred
Must have significant architectural knowledge of automotive, artificial intelligence, and/or IT systems
Must be able to articulate vision and influence decision making outcomes with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and customers
Must have a "whatever-it-takes" attitude using diplomatic leadership skills within a collaborative teamwork environment to accomplish the necessary results
Proven and effective communication, analytical, judgment, initiative and execution skills
Proven winner of new business supporting sales teams as technical expert
Extraordinary oral and written communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively with business and technology leaders.
Experience managing external and internal vendors/partners
Exceptional reputation as an innovator based on having created forward-looking research, projects, and award-winning publications
Comfortable working in ambiguity and leading teams through innovation uncertainty
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
Previous subject matter expert for complex, end-to-end systems
Drive for results, team player, change orientation, customer focus, self-awareness
Possess practical vehicle systems and network architecture knowledge
Eligibility Requirements:

Willingness to submit to a background screen and a drug test
