The Quality organization is currently seeking a skilled, solutions-oriented Resident Engineering Manager to join the FCA Corporate Quality Team at the new Detroit Assembly Plant. The Resident Engineering Manager will report to the Quality Center Manager of corporate quality and will lead all quality systems/programs, provide technical expertise to hourly and manufacturing salary personnel at the new Detroit Assembly facility and collaborate with plant manufacturing and engineering operations to champion FCA quality improvement efforts across all functional areas. The Resident Engineering Manager will apply advanced problem solving and engineering and knowledge to identify risks and create risk mitigation plans to resolve production and quality system deficiencies. The selected candidate will oversee and review project deliverables throughout the project lifecycle ensuring the product meets or exceeds customers’ needs and expectations.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
•Support corporate quality objectives/deliverables and communicate customer demands to all groups involved to ensure organizational success
•Manage engineering team on product related issues
•Coordinate production evaluation runs (PERs) and change notice (CN) implementation for product/process improvements
•Manage GIMS system that tracks non-conformance problems
•Ensure plant conformance to applicable process standards to support manufacturing engineering process audit
•Interface with model responsible engineers to facilitate launch of new programs with highest quality standards and performance
•Collaborate with quality control staff to contain customer warranty issues
•Capture product issues and respond to manufacturing quality issues to support engineering issue tracking process
•Manage the quality system documentation-procedures, instructions and forms pertaining to the assigned scope
•Manage product and process information from databases and to compile metric reports as requested
•Support the attainment of plant/corporate quality targets
•Lead and support quality and continuous improvement initiatives through the Kaizen methodology by working collaboratively within cross-functional manufacturing teams and facilitating consensus from the main stakeholders
•Build effective relationships with plant staff and shop floor production personnel to lead product change and improve outgoing quality
•Develop inspection standards and best methods for performing inspection
•Provide expert technical leadership in coordinating and directing cross-functional teams in the application of quality initiatives
•Protect product design intent and function while assisting with identification and solutions of manufacturing constraints
•Provide technical direction to employees regarding root cause analysis, issue resolution and establish corrective actions serving as the subject matter expert (SME) within the manufacturing facility
•Coach and mentor on advanced problem-solving expertise to correct unfavorable variances and communicate alternative measures to mitigate engineering, timing and/or financial issues
•Empowered (hold authority) to cease and commence product-related activities in relation to quality related issues
•Lead teams to identify risks/hazards associated with product designs, processes, applications, applying lessons learned, and assist in the generation of FMEA’s and associated control plans
•Provides supervision necessary to perform, administer or direct rework/repair methods and processes in compliance with engineering standards
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
•8 years of relevant experience
•Well-versed in Excel, PowerPoint
•Effective presentation/public speaking skills
•Experienced with problem-solving tools
•Demonstrated ability to coach and teach others
•Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
•Ability to communicate details from executive level to plant staff level
•Ability to work in a fast paced environment
•Ability to work off-shift hours as necessary
•Self-motivated and directed
Preferred Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree or higher in the fields of Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
•Experience working in a union environment
•Background in Lean Manufacturing principles or World Class Manufacturing (WCM) and problem-solving techniques
•Formal reactive problem-solving training (i.e. Green Belt/Black Belt/Master Black Belt/ Six Sigma / Shainin/ Kepner Trego, etc.)
