Department Summary
The Gas System and Operations Planning team is responsible for insuring the natural gas supply to Consumers Energy's state-wide distribution systems in the present and providing solutions for the future. Our team leverages data on a daily basis to anticipate our customer's needs and provide the plan to meet those needs. We monitor and provide the plan for dispatching the Company's natural gas transmission, storage, and compression system to provide safe, reliable, and reasonably priced natural gas supply to Consumers' 1.7 million natural gas customers. The Gas System and Operations Planning team provides expert testimony and support for MPSC filings. We are also responsible for all of the company's natural gas interconnection agreements to other companies, operational planning, and transmission facility planning. Our team supports other teams with their use of operational data, design of gas transmission assets, development of business plans, and performance measurement.
Job Description/Responsibilities
Coordinates and provides high-level project oversight on the interconnection to the gas transmission system of other pipelines, gas utilities, large end-use customers and local gas producers. This includes negotiating interconnect agreements, and assistance with maintenance service agreements. Provides technical expertise on gas quality issues and performs gas interchangeability and hydrocarbon dew point analyses to ensure gas quality specifications are met and gas supplies are interchangeable. Assists with MPSC and other regulatory filings by providing exhibits, proposed technical specifications, and technical advice for the company's stance on gas issues, particularly gas quality.
The following demonstrated skills and experience will be of particular use to the successful candidate: Communication and negotiating with other companies, clear verbal and written communication, legal agreement experience, informal leadership experience, experience creating standardized work processes, general understanding of gas transmission measurement and regulation, gas quality assessment, and ability to read and interpret engineering documents.
Required Qualifications
•A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Skills for this position include the ability to coordinate the efforts of contributors across the Company, clear communication of technical requirements, and negotiating aspects of agreements between companies. This individual will informally lead and solve problems, and will need to work well in a team environment.
This individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company's compliance standards. They will need to familiarize themselves with plans, specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately. They will be the primary contact and communication point for the Company's interconnect agreements. They will use effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise to coworkers, clients, customers, government entities and the public. External involvement may include meeting with other companies' stakeholders, regulators, or other company employees. They will attend and organize internal and external meetings. They will provide all interconnect services in a legal and ethical manner, and resolve all customer complaints in a timely manner. Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 90% of time spent in the office or specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location. Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with storm restoration activities. Individuals must have a valid driver's license.
