Department Summary
Gas M&R EI&C Engineering is responsible for the scoping, design and installation of electrical power and control systems/equipment at Consumers Energy's natural gas measurement and regulation facilities including all city gates, valve sites, regulator stations, transportation meter stations and customer meter location including electric power, lighting and Gas SCADA/telemetry equipment. M&R EI&C engineers specify and purchase Gas SCADA Remote Terminal Units and associated monitoring equipment, provide electrical specifications and requirements for equipment purchased by other organizations (e.g. valve operators and gas flow meters), coordinate electrical construction activities, and initiate and coordinate the installation of physical and technical services necessary for supported capital projects as well operations and maintenance requests at these facilities.
Job Responsibilties
•Responsible for supervising 4 hourly employees
•Acts as a EI&C subject matter expert while being responsible for revising processes, standards, and policies accordingly.
•Required to develop employees and work to improve design efficiency, quality, and waste elimination.
Job Qualifications
•A bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
•Candidates may be considered who don't have an ABET accredited engineering degree but may have background and work experience specific to this role.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work a minimum of 40 hours per week (45-50 typical) with 85% of time spent in the office or specific field locations. Travel is required to job sites and project meetings and could be significant dependent upon location. Individuals need to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines.
Essential Functions
Lead a group of dynamic individuals. Planning, design, construction, and maintenance of Electric Instrumentation and Controls for Gas Transmission and Distribution facilities and ancillary support process for all utility operations. Duties may fluctuate between projects. Individual must possess the skills to lead, problem solve, and work well in a team environment. Individual should exemplify safe work practices and follow the company's compliance standards and other industry code and best practice. Lead and/or assist with engineering projects to include design, plans, inspections, system planning, specifications, reports, maps, environmental impacts, permits, contracts, schedules, estimates, surveying, easements, data collection, construction observation, and field investigation. Provide engineering services with accuracy, integrating all applicable governmental and company laws, standards and procedures on time and under budget. Use computer assisted engineering, design, and drafting software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents. Understand and follow company established standard procedures for file structure and standard drawing procedures for projects. Become familiar with plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately. Assists in client contact and communication. Utilize effective oral and written communication skills to provide technical expertise tocoworkers, clients, customers, government entities and the public. Public involvement may include producing reports, graphics, presentations, and other visual material as well as occasional speaking or meeting with stakeholders. Attend internal and external meetings. Provide all engineering services in a legal and ethical manner. Resolve all customer complaints in a timely manner. Serve as onsite project representative. Reviews operating and construction sites to monitor progress and other duties per the design documents. Regular attendance is expected.
