Harsco Rail produces custom engineered equipment for all facets of rail maintenance (maintenance of way). Think of a locomotive with attachments. This highly complex equipment requires extreme engineering. Join our team of 11 Electrical Engineers; part of a global team of 100 engineers in this design-driven environment.
You'll have the opportunity to design and then support your product all the way through production and beyond to customer sites. You'll start with designing basic components while gaining exposure to more complex facets of our products.
As Electrical Design Engineer, you will play a vital role in new product development. Once indoctrinated, you'll define system level requirements and develop system and subsystem design specifications (system architecture). You will oversee system functional and performance modeling. You'll develop system level specification of validation and verification testing, and you will have responsibility for system safety strategy, system level target manufacturing cost, and system reliability strategy (RAM: Reliability, Availability, Maintainability). You will lead the system level feasibility, concept development, and detailed engineering, as well as system design reviews, issuing resolution activities and participating in vehicle level design reviews. You will prepare system and component level documentation, and create/maintain product structure / Bill of Materials (BOM). You'll create schematics, control box assemblies, wiring charts, cable charts, and machine interconnnects. In this hands-on role, you'll be collaborating with team members from the production floor to improve quality, manufacturability, and cost.
This position may be based in Ludington, MI, Fairmont, MN or in Columbia, SC. Domestic (U.S.) relocation assistance is available for this position. Visa sponsorship will be considered.
As Electrical Product Design Engineer, you will travel by commercial airline and automobile to field sites approximately 15% of the time. You will be part of the installation team which requires the ability to walk on gravel for up to a mile, climb vertical ladders up to 10' high, bend, crawl, and stretch. Requirements:
About you
You will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology and will have experience with a CAD system. A related internship or coop would be a big benefit.
Preferred qualifications include E3, PLM, Solid Edge and Teamcenter experience, knowledge of DC power with distributed I/O modules; and AC motors, drives, and power distribution. Experience in control box design in heavy mobile equipment or other custom equipment with a system-oriented design approach would be ideal.
