Position Summary:
Technical Program Manager III manages cross-functional teams to introduce running changes to audio systems for total variable cost improvements.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position may or may not have direct reports.
Job Responsibilities:
•Manage 8-10 post-production projects driving material, labor, and logistical improvements to audio systems components and processes (system, speaker, and/or amplifier.)
•Evaluate projects for investment payback and alignment to Harman business strategies.
•Lead the investigation of VAVE ideas, scope feasible ideas into projects, and define tasks to be performed by cross-functional teams. Use task list to create a work breakdown structure. Use work breakdown structure to establish program schedule and resources.
•Follow corporate product development process. Ensure the compliance of team members.
•Ensure prompt decision-making is executed by promoting consensus decisions, intervening when consensus decision-making fails, and making unilateral decisions in the case of a deadlock.
•Understand technical detail of the products used in all systems, both electrical and mechanical.
•Work with Core Engineering and AME functions to ensure proposed cost improvements are technically feasible and maintain customer performance and quality expectations.
•Work with Procurement and Product Sourcing functions to identify supplier strategies such as material strategies, supplier strateigies, and localization.
•Work with Sales to define a customer approval strategy for running VAVE improvements.
•Work with Harman plants and AME to identify process impact and ensure readiness for VAVE running changes.
•Work with Finance to achieve funding for projects.
•Execute the project from idea investigation, through validation and implementation to SOP.
•Negotiate resource allocations from functional managers. When a resource conflict occurs, negotiate a solution with functional managers and other program managers.
•Serve as lead project interface with senior management, and align with customer program management and sales teams to ensure proper communication with customers.
•Provide monthly progress reports to senior management.
•Complete other strategic cost improvement initiatives/ related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Basic Qualifications:
•REQUIRED Specific Knowledge, Expertise, Coursework
•Project planning, problem solving, multi-tasking, project management skills
•Clear and strategic thinker; proven experience in translating strategies into actionable plans
•Capable of handling multiple projects / initiatives simultaneously and executing to completion
•Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who can effectively work with all levels of a global matrixed organization
•Technical knowledge of Audio Systems and/or Automotive Electronics preferred
•REQUIRED Degree and/or Training, including specifically defined educational equivalent
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in engineering
•REQUIRED Specific Prior Experiences
•10+ years related experience in automotive tier 1 program management, sales, quality, design, engineering management, process engineering, or AME
•REQUIRED Physical Demands
•Will be able to travel to customer location and Harman plants and global technology centers occasionally
Eligibility Requirements:
•Willingness to travel 10% of the time.
•Willingness to work in an office in Novi, MI.
