The Career Center Representative serves as the first point of contact for visitors to the Michigan Works! Career Center. The major focus of this position will be to gather information from, and provide information to, the job seeker, employer, and customer contacting the Michigan Works! Career Center in person and/or by telephone to connect individuals to the appropriate program, staff, or service. The Career Center Representative will maintain current knowledge of all programs available through the Career Center and its partners, be very well versed in all of the center services available, and be able to inform and educate customers about the various opportunities. The Career Center Representative will also provide assistance to customers in completing the necessary applications for the various programs and direct customers appropriately to resources, events and staff on and off site.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Greets visitors in a friendly, professional manner as they enter the Service Center and provides relevant information or seeks out the needed information to direct the visitor and help them engage in Center services.
- Displays interest in and concern for all customers, treating them with respect and care, and is attuned to the processes in place to ensure the customer is being attended to in a timely fashion.
- Provides orientation to customers of Center services, assists in providing applications, and/or forms with completion instructions and assists as necessary to facilitate access to services and opportunities.
- Monitors activity in the front lobby, being aware of needs of the customers and customer flow.
- Answers telephone calls, routes calls to staff accordingly, and provides information and instructions to callers regarding hours, location, services, programs, scheduled events, partner services, and community resource.
- Assists staff with scheduling customers for various appointments, workshops, and Career Center events.
- Assists in maintaining accurate data systems for customer and business records including performing data entry into the designated data base system, storing hard copy
- documents in appropriate files and retrieving documents and data as needed for staff and to direct customer accurately.
- Assists customers with a variety of job search, programmatic, and informational needs and answers procedural questions.
- Provides motivational support and assistance for customers to increase their job search opportunities and encourage them in engaging in center and partner programs.
- Assists customers with operating available computerized software, tutorials, and assessment tools in the Resource Room.
- Must keep updated on various events in the Service Center, the agency, and the community; maintaining updated knowledge of the relevant rules, regulations, program changes, workforce development opportunities, labor market climate, and job search resources in order to accurately assist customers.
- Refers customers to workshops and other training opportunities available in the Service Center or the local community.
- Assists customers in developing and posting electronic resumes on the Pure Michigan Talent Connect and creating accounts in MILogin.
- Assists customers in searching for job openings via the Internet and resources available in the Service Center Resource Room.
- Provides information to and refers employers to the Business Service Representatives for assistance with registering and positing job openings.
- Maintains order in the Service Center lobby area, including posting various posters, informational flyers and marketing materials per supervisor’s instructions, removing dated information, and replenishing handouts as they become depleted.
- Assists unit with routine clerical support including copying, faxing, typing and word processing, executing mass mailings, completing follow-up calls to customers.
