Position Overview:
This position is responsible for providing technical leadership for complicated product design and/or product changes to ensure products meet cost, reliability, schedule, and performance integrity requirements. Additionally, this position is responsible for planning and executing all activities from preliminary design to production start-up, coordinated with the project management team, including in-house/plant technical support, post production as needed, and working with our customers to develop new packaging solutions.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
•Responsible for creating and executing leading edge projects of great complexity and scope.
•Responsible for the commercialization of new innovative technology in the aseptic/fluid dairy and general beverage space.
•Lead, as a subject matter expert, in the aseptic/fluid dairy and general product categories for the Beverage Business Unit.
•Responsible for defining project development strategy and reporting feasibility and risks. Collaborate with project manager(s) to determine cost, platform and resource requirements in order to bring products to market in time and within budget.
•Participate in resolution of issues such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of standard material and difficult coordination requirements.
•Coordinate project activities with other operating or engineering units to facilitate participation of appropriate staff in project completion.
•Review project-related documentation to ensure accuracy.
•Determine project objectives, create and maintain timelines, outline project requirements, assign tasks, and supervise progress to ensure objectives are being met.
•Participate in professional organizations to maintain current knowledge of technical innovations.
•Selects among clear policies and professional and engineering/design principles to address differing and variable situations. Requires advanced analytical interpretative/evaluative thinking.
•Identifies, defines, and resolves problems that are without clear precedent.
•Defines tools and techniques for successful completion of job.
•Identifies unique situations that don't fall into the standard and initiates actions to address them.
•Negotiates cost delivery and technical/design feasibility with external customers.
•Negotiates and makes decisions regarding the technical attributes of products with customers. Makes decisions regarding how to resolve issues with vendors regarding supplies and equipment.
•Coordinate corrective action plans, including design reviews, process improvements, and quality systems to meet the prescribed product requirements.
•Assist manufacturing facilities with start-up and validation of new products involving multi-platforms/multi-facilities.
Qualifications:
•Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline
•Minimum 6 years of experience in packaging product development with experience managing multiple, simultaneous high priority complex projects from conceptualization through commercialization. Experience in aseptic/fluid dairy beverage industry including knowledge of diverse aseptic filling equipment and processes required.
•Experience with conversions from non-PET (polyolefins, cartons, etc.) to PET for aseptic/fluid dairy products is desirable.
•Knowledge of injection molding and stretch blow molding machinery and process with PET plastics.
•Experience in bringing new technologies to market
•An ability to work and communicate cross-functionally throughout the organization
•Experience in Polymer Science Packaging Development is desirable.
•Knowledge of property enhancing material additives (not limited to but including barrier & U.V protection) for various packaging requirements
