Senior Analytical Engineer -- Fluid Dynamics
American Axle & Manufacturing, Inc. has openings for Sr. Fluid Dynamics Analytical Engineers at its facility in Detroit, MI.
Job duties include:
Performing Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis (Multiphase and Thermal) on Axle, PTU, RDM, e-Drive internal components to predict lubrication and thermal performanceAnalyzing design parameters, testing results and providing design recommendations for efficiency, lubrication and thermal performance optimization Working with Product Engineering to ensure axle efficiency and lubrication meet performance requirements Writing technical reports Creating and delivering oral presentations to internal and external customers.
•Position requires: Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or foreign equivalent education, (PhD preferred) as well the following:
•Solid graduate level course work in thermal and CFD fundamentals
•4-6 years of industrial level experience after MSc, 1-4 years after PhD
•Hands on CFD/Thermal modeling experience (Multiphase, conjugate heat transfer) using STAR-CCM+ (or other comparable commercial industrial scale tools) including interior and exterior, transient and steady-state flow regime modeling. Both 1D (Amesim or similar) and 3D method experience strongly preferred. Gearbox lubrication and thermal mapping experience preferred.
•Gearbox efficiency modeling software experience preferred
•Understanding of CFD theoretical concepts, such as adequate meshing resolution, solution accuracy and convergence, boundary condition setup, transient modeling, turbulence modeling
•Cross-functional team work experience which would include interacting with CAE, test and manufacturing engineers to provide optimum product design recommendations
•Analyzing test data trends and CFD model benchmarking Ability to work with minimal supervision
•Demonstrated depth of understanding of physical concepts sufficient for independent method (thermal/multiphase) modeling development.
•Coding experience strongly desired
