Basic Purpose and Objective
Product Development Engineer - Fasteners is responsible for the development of plastic and metal automotive fasteners (interior and exterior).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
* Work with applications engineering (AE) & Customer Manager (CM) teams to implement customer requirements into new product designs
* Champion material selection & collaborate with TM (Tooling Manager), CM & resin/material suppliers, based upon the performance criteria & application environment
* Work with the design team to create 2D drawings and 3D models
* Oversee generation and approval of designs
* Responsible for APQP deliverables (DFMEA, DVP&R, team feasibility assessments, design stack ups, design studies, etc)
* Conduct part reviews & approvals through validation methods: PV testing, CT Scans, CAD overlays, analyze results and implement design improvements through collaborative meetings with the TM, CM & AE s
* Assist in resolving current production product issues through Gimba walks, development & maintenance of open issues report with QC & Mfg Engineering Teams
* Assist manufacturing and process development team in optimizing part designs for mass production and assuring part performance capability
* Take ownership in the development of the products:
* Demand the required information from the Application Engineer s (AE s) & CM s, so a product can be developed that meets or exceeds expectations, is cost effective and on time
* Reduce solution completion time and design iterations, strive for better design decisions that lead to right the first time designs.
* As a PD team, insure that the products being developed have accurate and consistent drawings, APQP documentation, part duplication, test procedures, and updated Master Part Folders
* Formulate test procedures and ensure test & work instruction accuracy
* Align engineering efforts with global partners: Tucker & NPR to develop & maintain Stanley engineering best practices through Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE)
* Develop proficiency utilizing CT Scanner, VGL & exaCT Software, test lab & 3D printer operation, & CATIA and/or NX design platforms
* Support SPR initiatives, design, engineering and testing as needed
* Support and promote innovative product generation resulting in patent generation
Essential Skills & Experience
* Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
* Experience in product design and development preferred
* Experience in automotive industry preferred
* Ability to coordinate multiple and fast paced projects
* Experience with APQP process and ISO 16949 (DFMEA, DVP&R, Team Feasibility)
* Six Sigma experience preferred
* Strong 3D CAD background and modeling experience preferred
* Strong interpersonal skills, computer skills, leadership skills
* Understanding of design for plastic injection molding preferred
* Understanding of design for metal forming, stamping, cold heading preferred
* VA/VE and continuous improvement
* Lessons learned and root cause analysis
* Experience in fastener design preferred
