Northern Michigan University is seeking applications for a Director of Student Support Services. The position is responsible for hiring and training of professional staff; identifying eligible Student Support Services (SSS) participants; developing program activities to support retention and graduation of participants; providing direct service to program advisees; developing and maintaining department/program budget; coordinating data collection and reporting to the University and U.S. Department of Education; and assuring compliance with all federal regulations.
Minimum qualifications: Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Personnel or related field. Three years' higher education experience and/or three years' experience in the administration of TRIO or similar programs serving under-represented or at risk students.
Knowledge/skills/abilities required: Experience and skill with computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheet applications, and email. Ability to effectively communicate, both written and verbal, with a wide variety of clientele. Well developed interpersonal skills. Knowledge of need-based educational assessment. Knowledge of theories and best practices in student development. Strong data collection, management and reporting skills. Effective public speaking skills. Ability to work with sensitive and confidential student information.
The position is traditionally Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm with occasional evening and weekend work required. This is a grant-funded position ending 8/31/2020, subject to renewal. The targeted salary range is $44,640-$49,000.
