General Position Description
The Engineering Technician is responsible for assisting with the design, engineering and development of innovative and competitive new products. Also works in engineering support role supporting quality and legacy product needs. The Engineering Technician works with other Product Development team members to ensure that the company's product development goals are achieved within agreed upon time and budget parameters. Development efforts will focus on the creation of "new" products and systems and the enhancement of existing product lines. Principal Duties and Accountabilities
•Assist other product development team members with the research, design and development of new products and components using the Tubelite stage-gate style product development process.
•Participate in cross-functional teams for each product initiative.
•Actively work to ensure that projects and engineering changes are completed on time.
•Update and maintain appropriate project documentation to assure that all necessary activities are completed per the product development process.
•Help develop product data rules, engineering standards, fabrication drawings, details, procedures, installation manuals and promotional materials for new products.
•Help design, build and test prototypes for physical evaluation of product designs.
•Validate product performance against design specs.
•Provide ongoing support for existing products.
•Help troubleshoot manufacturing issues for new products.
•Maintain and update engineering documents for existing products.
•Provide technical support to sales, marketing, estimating and manufacturing departments.
•Interface with vendors, customers, test labs and internal resources while following the product development process.
Position Requirements
•Minimum 3 years successful Product Development experience in a manufacturing setting.
•Minimum of 3 years experience in technical design/applications engineering.
•Knowledge of building codes, design and testing standards.
•Knowledge and understanding of structural calculations.
•Ability to interpret architectural plans and specifications, mechanical drawings and related documents.
•Proficient in use of 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD and Inventor preferred)
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Excellent interpersonal skills.
•Strong customer orientation.
•A "self starter" requiring minimal supervision and guidance.
