OVERVIEW
The Safety Specialist will assist in the development of and direction of the implementation of the Company's safety program. This position will recommend measures to reduce or eliminate industrial accidents and hazards as well as monitor and ensure compliance with OSHA guidelines and regulations and established Company policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Regulatory Compliance Management
Serve as the technical expert in developing policies and programs to comply with OSHA regulations
Review OSHA log and recommend corrections to Safety Manager / Worker Compensation Manager
Provide required information to the Bureau of Labor Statistics
Assist with OSHA investigations and OSHA on-site visits
Develop and update safety training content (PIT, LOTO, etc)
Facilitate air sampling, review results and coordinate corrective action if needed
Sound mapping facilities for hearing conservations purposes
Identify team members requiring compliance training for blood borne pathogen, respiratory protection, radiation, etc.
Schedule required safety trainings annually (fire extinguisher, confined space, fall protections, etc.)
Maintain and update monthly safety training topics for operations
Schedule annual inspections for fall protection and crane and hoist
Audit LOTO procedure database for accuracy and assist in development of LOTO procedures as necessary
Review all SDS's for new chemicals in the facility and update chemical management system as needed
Ensure compliance with emergency showers and eye wash stations
Serve as first responder to emergencies (ammonia, fires, etc)
Ensure compliance recordkeeping (e.g., hot work permits, confined spaces entry, etc.)
Maintain and audit HazCom program and make updates as needed
Perform periodic audit of onsite contractors
Process Improvement and Program Management
Serve as technical expert on internal key expectations audits
Provide training to new safety trainers
Provide supervisor onboarding safety training
Analysis incidence data and formulate implementation plan for improvement
Generate and distribute weekly safety results and provide trending and analysis
Review / audit new operation SOPs
Leverage resources with insurance broker/ carrier
Review new equipment set-up/ layout designs and provide recommendations prior to approval as needed
Identify and develop critical care plans as needed
Serve as technical resource on Operations safety teams
Serve as technical resource on fire prevention team
Benchmark industry and provide recommendations on best practices
Coaching / Engagement
Serve as safety resource for Hatfield, Emmaus and Farm locations
Proactive engagement with Team Members and Supervisors in their work environment
Coach and support supervisors on safety awareness, day-to-day observations of safety related behaviors and conditions
Coach and support leaders of internal safety teams
Serve as resource for incident investigations
Audit safety check-list in operation area and provide recommendations as needed
Gather / share key learnings across organization
Team CFG
Participate in panel interviews as safety representative
Serve as plant tour guide as needed
Participate in operations meetings as necessary
Safety engagement with outside customers
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Safety, Ergonomics or a related field
Minimum of 2-3 years of applied Health & Safety work experience
High level of nterpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Willingness to work flexible schedule including evenings
Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
