Job Description

The Academic Specialist, Children Services, reports to the Program Manager, Children Services and is responsible for the educational/academic support and tutoring. The Academic Specialist performs academic evaluations and makes recommendations for appropriate educational support. The Academic Specialist provides individual and/or group sessions which may include tutoring and academic support focusing on study skills, organizational skills, classroom accountability, test taking and compensatory strategies. The Academic Specialist acts as a liaison with the program, the families, external partners and the classroom teacher and may consult on transition planning, classroom/school accommodations and IEP advocacy.

Additional Requirements:

•Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in the areas of Child Development, Regular Education or Special Education. Must possess a valid Michigan Teaching certificate. Special Education endorsement preferred.
•A minimum of three to five years experience in education, rehabilitation or a directly related field or setting.
•Working knowledge of traumatic (acquired) brain injury and its physical, cognitive, functional and behavioral implications.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
