Job Description

Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Job Duties

1) Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.

2) Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.

3) Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.

4) Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.

5) Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.

6) Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.


Additional Requirements:

SKILLS OR TRAINING REQUIRED

  • Must be able to  demonstrate basic skills on a Windows-based computer system.
  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • History of good work habits and excellent attendance is required.
  • Must have good organizational skills and the ability to work and communicate with all levels of the organization and outside contacts.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the capability to work accurately and efficiently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to cope with meeting customer demands with little or no lead-time. .
  • Must have good math and reading skills and be able to write legibly.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Will need to demonstrate competency of the paperwork, computer systems and transactions involved in this department. 
  • This position requires the meeting of deadlines and the ability to prioritize a workload on a daily basis. 
  • Willingness to work overtime on short notice and flex schedule to support vacation, lost time, and peak period coverage is necessary. 
  • Heavy and repetitive lifting (over 40 lbs) is required.
  • Perform training and other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Support the department and Flexfab continuous improvement objectives.
  • Must be able to learn new tasks and adapt to new challenges as necessary.
  • Prefer a minimum of 12 months of CNC / machining experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Warehouse/Plant and office environment
  • A majority of the time is in a warehouse/plant area
  • Communicate on a daily basis with all internal contacts.
