Powertrain Engineering is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to fulfill the role as Manager, Pre-Development for one of their engine programs. The Manager is responsible for leading a group of engineers, conducting performance reviews, mentoring new engineers to ensure new technology is capable of achieving functional objectives in readiness for program approval and subsequently production. The pre-development manager ensures that the work is managed through direct reports to achieve all specified FCA group customer fuel economy, performance, and emission requirements.
The Manager will plan resources, timelines and monitor the work of a group of 6 — 12 engineers performing engine hardware selection, combustion, performance, fuel economy, and emissions development. Ensure consistent and high level of quality work during engine hardware development and dynamometer base engine calibration development. Additional responsibilities include reporting progress to goals, issues, and risks to senior level management in concert with the Chief Engineer and provide employee performance feedback at yearly reviews. Ensure that the products meet specified functional objectives at check points of the product development cycle.
Basic Qualifications:
•BSME, BSEE, BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or equivalent from an ABET accredited university
•Minimum of 10 years accumulated experience in engine development, base engine calibration, or powertrain systems development
•Minimum of 3 years of prior experience leading a group of engineers in engine development and/or base engine calibration of spark ignition engines
•Thorough understanding of internal combustion engine fundamentals
•Understanding of powertrain controls and engine calibration methodologies
•Proven leadership skills
•Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
•Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
•MSME, MSEE, MSChemE or Master of Science from an ABET accredited university
•Prior experience with the development and calibration of port fueled and direct injection spark ignition engines
•Engine hardware In the Loop development/verification
