Overview
Perform standard engineering assignments, which are of moderate technical complexity and usually represent a significant portion of a larger project. Independently select engineering techniques and approach to less experienced employees. Individuals in the capacity are recognized as having a high level of technical proficiency.
Responsibilities
* Perform moderately complex technical tasks which usually represent a significant portion of a larger project
* Generate recommendations and conclusions for product improvements with minimal guidance
* Coordinate work with other engineers and operating groups
* Preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects
* Design and develop Special Service Tools in support of customer and other Tool Programs
* Create 3D Models and 2D Mechanical Drawings (CAD)
* Work closely with customer/client to establish tool requirements and understand tool use
* Recommend tooling concepts and solutions
* Develop and Assemble mock-ups, prototypes, 3D Prints
* Coordinate with machine shops and other suppliers for prototype fabrication
* Test and validate tools on vehicles or vehicle subsystems
* Mentor and develop less senior engineers
* Inspect returned/damaged tools for mfg defects, identify design issues
* Other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Qualifications
* BS in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent
* 3-5 yrs experience in Mechanical Engineering/3D CAD
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
* Experience in hands-on Mechanical Assembly & Fabrication
* Automotive/Machinery assembly or repair experience preferred
* Understanding of engineering principles, machining, injection molding
* Knowledge of 3D printing technologies preferred
* Knowledge of Electrical systems and basic electronics
* Strong Analytical and problem solving skills
* Strong Interpersonal and communications skills
