Federal Mogul's Powertrain Division is looking for a Lubrication Analyst (Tribologist) that will be responsible to support application engineering and designers. They will analyze bearing lubrication systems and related subsystems to develop a high level of understanding of the design through techniques such as hydrodynamic lubrication theory, tribology and finite element analysis. The Lubrication Analyst is responsible for analyzing and interpreting the results and making recommendations for design improvements to application engineers, product engineers and designers, as well as to provide support to such engineers in understanding failure. This person will become a valued member of our Bearings Engineering team, where we strive to promote from within wherever possible; therefore, opportunities for advancement are strong.
An ideal candidate for this position is someone who possesses a Masters in Engineering with emphasis on tribological systems and lubrication theory. Ability to analyze the structural integrity of a component/system and simulating performance of components, assemblies and systems to support customers, applications/product and manufacturing engineering is a necessary qualification for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop custom software programs and user subroutines to interface with commercial FEA and
analysis packages to accurately model lubrication systems relating to plain bearings, bushings and washers.
Work in collaboration with global application engineering, design and analysis teams to understand analysis requirements, results requested and stay abreast of the latest analysis methods and technology.
Contribute to the development of new methods and tools and assists in the development of new design and analysis techniques, standards and systems.
Represent the group as technical consultant for the application/product engineers and customers.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Masters in Engineering required with emphasis on tribological systems and lubrication theory.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
3 to 8 years minimum work experience; specifically with a tribology background.
There will be no laboratory opportunity/testing or validation in this role; it will be strictly analysis.
Thorough understanding of hydrodynamic lubrication theory and application to internal combustion engine operation.
Thorough understanding of tribological systems with emphasis on various lubrication operating regimes.
Ability to analyze designs (structural integrity of a component/system) using commercial finite element analysis (FEA) software such as Abaqus and Ansys.
Ability to interpret analysis results, recommend design improvements and make technical
presentations within the company, to customers and at conferences.
Ability to work unsupervised and provide support to application engineering, production
engineering and designers.
