Job Description
This position is located at Laboratory Services, 135 W. Trails St. in Jackson, MI.
Key Responsibilities:
•Lead a highly technical department of calibration technicians and analysts providing calibration services to both internal and commercial customers
•Seek out and develop new business opportunities within the Company and in the open calibration services market
•Support the development of a comprehensive Asset Management program within Consumers Energy
•Ensure continued compliance with the Lab Services Quality System, ISO/IEC 17025, 10CFR Part 21 Appendix B, and other industry standards as well as compliance to the industry standards for measurement uncertainty and traceability
•Identify and implement productivity improvements through automation and lean principles.
•Maintain involvement with the international metrology industry to keep current with the latest industry developments, technologies, and practices
The selected candidate must have the following skills:
•Metrology Aptitude
•Experience with Quality Systems
•Instrumentation background
Required Qualifications
•A Bachelor's degree in a technical field and typically 7 or more years of exempt work experience in the specific field. (OR) An Associate's degree in a technical field with typically 15 or more years of experience in the specific field.
The following skills may set you apart from others:
•Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Quality, Physics or General Sciences
•Experience using MetTeam/MetCal, Statistical course work
•Previous Management experience
•ASQ Calibration Technician Certification
Essential Functions
Perform various tasks associated with prompt testing, dispositioning, and routine reporting and documentation of analytical laboratory results for various materials, substances and incoming raw material Conducts and documents physical and/or analytical tests on samples submitted to lab from various processes. Determines sample conformance to specifications and decides material disposition. Communicate deficiencies to appropriate personnel in timely fashion. Investigate and follow up on discrepant results. Performs complaint investigation as requested by management. Responsible for proper filing of data sheets after testing is completed. Performs raw material testing for prompt dispositioning as needed. Performs and documents calibrations on various equipment in the lab. Maintains laboratory cleanliness and organization in preparation for oncoming shift. Working safely and protecting the environment are an essential part of an employee's job performance and all employees are responsible for adhering to EHS policies/procedures, reports hazardous conditions or risks follow department EHS rules and requirements. Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40 hours per week with 85% of time spent in the office or specific field locations.
