Highland Cooper Company seeks a Health & Safety Manager to join their management team in Wakefield, MI! As Health & Safety Manager, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining all safety and health regulations within your site. This is an exempt position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with regulatory laws
- Overseeing the development of new safety training programs as required
- Conducting new employee and contractor orientation before they begin work on-site
- Auditing processes and facilities within the area of responsibility to ensure the Health & Safety Management System is in compliance and conforms not only to Highland Copper Company and its subsidiaries requirements, but with all applicable local, state, federal, and business requirements
- Managing MSHA/OSHA/State Mine Inspector visits, evaluate field activities, addressing potential violations with inspectors, and ensuring documentation of all potential violations are completed as required
- Developing processes necessary to continuously improve the HSMS and ensure compliance with all legal, business, and client requirements
- Analyzing and interpreting scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and regulatory documents to identify potential impacts to the site
- Presenting information and responding to Health and Safety questions or concerns from employees, managers, and the general public
- Responding to employee Health & Safety inquiries, regulatory complaints, and/or community group
- Conducting safety orientations, visiting work sites, and distributing literature to implement and promote Health and Safety policies and procedures
- Evaluating safety training venues annually to ensure presentation materials
- Developing a management system to track training records to track all safety training initiatives conducted personally or by outside consultants/vendors
- Assisting with the investigation of accidents, injuries, including working with supervisors on the completion of accident investigation reports
- Performing other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of related experience in Health & Safety, OR
- Master’s degree and discipline and two (2) years of Health & Safety experience
- Proven safe work record
- Knowledge of industrial hygiene exposure modeling
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Criteria/Conditions
- Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
- Ability to communicated in English (also French would be a plus) with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
- Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to fifty (50) pounds during the course of the workday

- Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity and moving mechanical parts
