Dean Trailways of Michigan is seeking qualified individuals to drive passenger vans throughout campus for Michigan State University's Safe Ride Program. Positions will involve transporting students on East Lansing campus and communicating with dispatch staff. Must be available to work a five hour shift between the hours of 9:00 pm and 3:00 am; days of week will vary and will include weekends. Drivers will be scheduled to work 15-30 hours per week, depending on availability. Starting pay is $14.00 per hour.
Qualified candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years of driving experience, must possess a good driving record, must pass a criminal background check and drug screening, and must be reliable, punctual, and professional. A Chauffeur's License is preferred but not required to apply; must be able to obtain Chauffeur's License once hired.

Specific Responsibilities1. Conduct pre-trip and post trip inspections of assigned vehicle as required2. Route passenger stops efficiently based on customer request and/or charter order3. Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required4. Instruct passengers regarding safety5. Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather6. Drive with safety of passengers as first priority7. Adhere to all company policies8. Establish favorable working relationships with passengers, co-workers, company customers and company management9. Chauffeur Drivers shall achieve self-improvement by attending training sessions, annual in-service and workshops conducted by company and/or other approved agencies |
Specific Abilities1. Operate non-commercial motor vehicle types and lift equipment, as assigned2. Demonstrate knowledge of geographic service area of the routes traveled3. Demonstrate knowledge of federal and state laws and local ordinances related to transportation4. Deal with varying behaviors and characteristics of passengers6. Be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies and day-to-day operations7. Able to conduct a vehicle evacuation drill as required by company8. Keep accurate records and reports as required, submit in a legible condition, and turn in at the specified time9. Act in an appropriate and professional manner at all times10. Secure all equipment that is required for each passenger as prescribed in company policy11. Able to lift, store, and disassemble/assemble wheelchairs of a maximum weight of and/or other ambulatory devices, luggage, or cargo required by passenger(s)Body Mechanics of Chauffeur DriverChauffeur Drivers are required through their employment to perform various tasks. These physical tasks require varying degrees of lifting, pulling, bending and carrying of heavy objects.Some examples of these are:Opening and closing a vehicle hood and lifting the hood up to perform pre-trip requirementsOpening and closing of all vehicle doorsBending, pushing and pulling to load and unload a wheelchair, luggage, or other cargo by exerting a maximum of 40 lb. of push / pull pressureBending, supporting and otherwise physically helping passengers into and out of a vehicleCarrying and lifting into and from the vehicle, personal articles and adaptive equipment of various weights and sizesBending and stretching for the cleaning and securement of equipment in the interior of the vehicleBend, stretch, pull and drag all persons, equipment or other types of articles that would be of varying sizes and weight out of vehicle doors and/or emergency exits on demand
