This position will Assist the Director, Public Safety and Police Services, Northern Michigan University in providing a safe environment for the members of UP Health System-Marquette. Enforce laws, regulations, ordinances, policies and provide safeguards for the hospital.
Minimum qualifications: Associate’s Degree. Required Specialized Training/Certifications: Must meet minimum standards of the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards in accordance with P.A. 203. Must have attended and graduated from a regional police academy and be licensable upon hiring. Valid motor vehicle operators license with a good driving record.
Knowledge/skills/abilities required: Knowledge of relevant public safety and security equipment, policies, procedures and strategies to promote effective local, state or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions. Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers. Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted. Ability to speak clearly to communicate information and ideas so others can understand you. Ability to listen to information being presented, taking time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate. Ability to identify or detect a known pattern (a figure, object, word, or sound) that is hidden in other distracting material; ability to see at close range (within a few feet of the observer) and see details at a distance with or without reasonable accommodations. Ability to remain calm under stressful situations.
This position is variable shifts/variable days; 12 hour shifts. The hourly rate is $19.16 starting; $20.17 working.
