Position Description:
Wheeled Lethality Servo-Control engineer - EE Engineering Specialist
- Provide servo control systems design expertise for small, medium, & large caliber weapon platforms, primarily for systems with electric drive motors.
- Perform error budget analyses to support fire control integration, working to ensure contributing portions of designs (e.g., pointing/tracking accuracies, mounting tolerances, sensor accuracies, processing delays) combine to deliver required level of performance at turret level (e.g., slew-to-cue accuracy, far target locate accuracy).
- Perform system, subsystem, & LRU-level requirements analysis as relates to weapon motion control, identifying interfaces & functionality for multiple programs. Includes consideration for fully operational (stabilized) & degraded (non-stabilized) modes, for both full-director & mechanically linked systems.
- Model requirements using Matlab/Simulink & associated toolboxes (e.g., Stateflow) in support of model-based code development. Areas of emphasis here extend beyond servo-control, to also include basic fire control functionality (e.g., sight/weapon interaction, ballistics, and coordinate translations/transformations). As an extension of model creation, create & execute test cases in model environment before model handoff, to the end of minimizing escape defects. All efforts include consideration for full-up operation & graceful degradation.
- Perform servo-control system design analysis & synthesis for both analog & digital platforms.
- Develop low to high-fidelity plant models as needed to investigate issues, support servo-control design & refinement, & to create integration/test environments providing hardware-in-the-loop capabilities.
- Perform laboratory & vehicle integration/test to investigate & troubleshoot gun/turret drive control issues, or to release new/modified designs in this area. Such tasks involve complex functionality & interfaces, plus require use of special test equipment (e.g., spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, Ethernet/RS-422/etc. bus monitors, custom-created equipment). In support of such tests, author detailed test plans/procedures up front & document results via test reports upon completion.
- Coordinate with other organizations, compiling input, providing status, and providing suggested course(s) of action as required.
- Work with outside suppliers in cases where functionality under scrutiny is buy instead of make.
- Support technical reviews, delivering lethality related artifacts and review material as required.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Computer Engineering (BSCE), and/or Mechatronic Systems Engineering required. Advanced degree and additional certifications within applicable discipline preferred. Must provide college GPA(s) on application.
- Job primarily in the office. Travel to customer, field, production, or supplier facilities required, including both domestic & international (largely Canada) destinations. Durations typically =2 weeks.
- Motion control systems design experience required, encompassing analysis, modeling, simulation, design, and lab/vehicle testing/tuning.
- Experience with small, medium, or large caliber weapon control preferred.
- Flexibility to adapt experience to support new applications/platforms required.
- Experience with embedded processing required, both from development and test standpoint. Experience with software/firmware programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Ada, Assembly, Visual Basic, Labview, Matlab) required.
- Experience with signal monitoring/analysis tools required (e.g., Matlab/Simulink, Labview).
- Experience in production and fielding environments required.
- DOORS experience required for requirements analysis, decomposition, and traceability, including ability to trace requirements from DOORS to control system design tools (e.g., Matlab/Simulink).
- Overtime, weekend, holiday, & off-hours work may be required to complete time-critical tasks.
