Department Summary
The Resource Planning function within Energy Supply Operations is responsible for the short-, mid- and long-term energy and capacity planning and operational, financial, and investment decisions. Specifically, the team provides power supply forecasts to ensure ample generation for peak customer demand, analyzes impacts of energy efficiency programs and new generation resources, as well as providing the detailed information for the recovery of investments through Michigan Public Service Commission filings.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Model Optimization & Analytics (MOA) Analyst will be performing data analytics and market modeling to support managing short-term energy price, load, and congestion forecasts. The Analyst will be responsible for the collection of data sets and metrics, consumption of data through a number of software tools, which may require advanced technical knowledge, and providing meaningful insights into the data. The Analyst will also be maintaining and developing automated data gathering, data upload, and report creation services using VBA and Python programming. They will also be performing benchmarking analysis for Resource Planning and other organizations within Energy Supply Operations.

Key Responsibilities include:
•forecasting energy prices using various predictive models
•analyzing generator economics and proposing strategies to improve profitability
•use Metrix IDR, PROMOD, Strategist, MS Excel, and other software tools for metrics and analysis of data
•write Python programs to streamline existing processes
•quantifying the economic impact of short-term generation outages
•benchmarking production cost models of coal, gas, and renewable resources
•creating and automating various operational reports for management

Requirements/Qualifications
•A Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program as set forth in the Engineers Council for Professional Development.
•In lieu of an ABET accredited Engineering degree, a bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical field may be acceptable for placement in the Engineering Tech job family.
The following skills will set you apart from others:
•Masters or other advanced degree, ideally in a technical or business area
•Proficiency with MS Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; advanced Excel capability (writing formulas, pivot tables, macros, VBA, etc.)
•Experience with Metrix IDR, PROMOD, or other software tools
•Programming experience (Python preferred)
•Basic knowledge of electric power systems
•Economic analysis experience
•Energy industry background that includes a working knowledge of effectively mapping technology to business challenges
