Extrusion Press Operator
Monitor and adjust press speed and temperature to optimize quality and productivity.
Ensure optimum exit temperature of extrusions from the oven to achieve proper material temper in the Heat Treating process
Perform "Start of Shift" Operator Checks: ensure the oven is working properly, the correct dies are in the oven, the billet lengths are correct, the container temp is correct, and the recipe for each dies is correct.
Utilize Isotherm automated system to optimize press speed and ensure correct exit temperature of extrusions.
Effectively operate the material handling system to move extrusions from the press to the ovens.
Perform "Checks" during extrusion process to ensure that the form and finish of finished extrusions is of expected quality.
Effectively communicate die change needs to the die setter to minimize die changeover time and heat loss.
Perform required documentation for EPICS to accurately record production performance against the production schedule
Die Setter
Efficiently make die changes to maximize extrusion time and minimize heat loss.
Ensure tooling is proper temperature prior to extruding.
Double-check all die set-ups to ensure tooling has enough clearance not to "plug"
Pre-stage and prepare tooling set-ups when possible for efficiency and to minimize mistakes.
Stretcher
Advance extrusions after production onto the run out table to specifications
Stretch extrusions to tolerances, utilizing pre-established dimensions
Using HMI computer program, measure extrusion dimensions. Adjust HMI program when extrusions are out of tolerance.
Perform "Checks" during stretching process to ensure extrusions have quality form and finish.
Saw Operator
Cut extrusions to correct length per sales order. Double-check cut length settings to ensure accuracy.
Transfer cut material to cradles without damage
Act as a quality check and inform Supervisor if non-conforming extrusions (scratches, die lines, incomplete stretches, etc.) are detected
Inform Supervisor and Press Operator about any material shortages
Perform required documentation for EPICS to accurately record performance against the production schedule
Transfer product to ovens
Saw Tail Operator
Scrap extra material
Assist the Saw Operator to transfer cut material to cradles without damage.
Act as a quality check and inform Supervisor if non-conforming extrusions (scratches, die lines, incomplete stretches, etc.) are detected
Record Go/No Go gauges readings
Caustic Operator
Pick and set up dies based on orders scheduled for the Press
After use, tear dies down to prepare for cleaning
Clean, rinse and prepare dies for next use
