The Staff Counsel attorney will be primarily responsible for defending Fiat Chrysler against charges filed with the EEOC and state fair employment practices agencies. Responsibilities include, analyzing charges for legal basis, timeliness, and jurisdiction preparing the position statement and responses to requests for information submitted by such agencies, preparing witnesses and attending on-site visits and fact-finding conferences, participating in mediations and negotiating settlement agreements and releases, and analyzing charges for trends. Additionally, the Staff Counsel will advise Human Resources in regards to employment law issues, provide training to Human Resources on employment law matters, and provide support with respect to employment law matters and employment litigation.
Basic Qualifications:
•J.D. Degree from an ABA-accredited law school and currently licensed to practice law in a state and willing to establish a license to practice in the State of Michigan
•Minimum three years of progressive professional legal experience with employment law issues, employment litigation, and preparing responses to charges filed with the EEOC and state fair employment practices agencies
•Ability to travel as required
Preferred Qualifications:
•Prior work experience as in-house counsel
•Prior employment litigation experience and experience preparing witnesses for and attending on-site investigations and fact-finding conferences and negotiating settlement agreements and releases with agencies
•The ability to work collaboratively, negotiate, and generate consensus among those with diverse points of view
•A desire to learn and take on new assignments to build legal skills
•Strong ability to work well with people, independently and as part of a team
•Excellent writing, oral communication, analytical and organizational skills
•Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving, challenging environment
•Ability to multi-task and manage a large volume of concurrent priorities
