Plant Summary
The Grayling Generating Station plant is a 36MW biomass fueled renewable energy power plant. The power produced is sold to Consumers Energy pursuant to a power purchase agreement. The plant turns waste wood chips, sawdust and bark into 230,000 megawatt hours of electricity each year. The power produced supports the health of the forests, mitigates greenhouse gases and supports the electric grid in northern Michigan. The facility is owned by subsidiaries of CMS Enterprises, AltaGas and Fortistar.
Job Description/Responsibilities
In this role, you will be responsible for the overall management of the Grayling Generating Station LP renewable energy biomass plant in Grayling, Michigan, including:
•The leadership in developing and implementing clear expectations to achieve the highest level of overall plant performance and safety.
•Leadership and development of team members.
•Responsibility for providing leadership and direction to employees who run the Grayling Generating Station.
•Frequently providing guidance and counsel to upper management on critical systems and projects.
•Required to lead teams and individuals that may not be direct reports and achieve tangible results.
•Directing and monitoring the day-to-day activities of the Maintenance Supervisor to achieve and maintain high levels of cost-effective equipment reliability and overseeing the safe and efficient plant outages.
•Directing and monitoring the day-to-day activities of the Operations Supervisor to achieve and maintain high levels of plant operating performance and operating efficiency.
•Directing and monitoring the day-to-day activities of the AJD fuel supply contract to plan for and achieve the procurement of high quality, yet cost-effective fuels in optimal volumes.
•Overall safety, environmental and regulatory matters in full compliance with all applicable permits, standards, rules, laws and regulations.
•Managing the business matters of the Grayling plant including the formation of the short and long-term strategic plans, long-term maintenance plans and operating and maintenance budgets inclusive of major maintenance and capital budget items.
•Achieving financial performance for the business at or better than budget.
•Maintaining a positive relationship with the plant owners.
•Providing formal and informal communications on the plant status to the partners, lenders, government agencies and the general public, as required.
•Overseeing the procurement of all goods and services in compliance with good business practices.
•Responsible for compliance with all plant contracts and documents.
•Overseeing the establishment and maintenance of various training programs to assure that the plant is operated and maintained safely and efficiently.
•Managing a variety of personnel matters, including hiring, training, discipline, employee development and promotion.
•Maintaining good public relations with the local community.
•Maintaining good communications and relationships with our customers and vendors.
•Monitoring and guiding the plant team.
Requirements/Qualifications
•10+ years of progressive leadership experience in the power generation business or related fields.
•Must possess demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate high levels of performance and deliver clear and consistent messages.
•Must have a technical background in combustion technologies (particularly solid fuels) including boiler, turbine, material handling, emissions equipment and controls.
•Must have a high degree of business acumen; be able to manage multiple issues, and to clearly communicate.
•Must possess the highest levels of honesty, integrity, ethical values and respect for diversity.
