Department Summary
The JH Campbell Plant Coal Supply Department is responsible for safely receiving rail cars of coal, unloading the rail cars, and supplying the boilers with a steady stream of coal thru a complex conveyor system that fuels the plant. The team also maintains the bottom ash ponds, fly ash silos, and the ash landfill where remnants of the coal burning process are stored.
The Fuel Handling Supervisor will be responsible for:
•Directing the operation of fuel handling and landfill equipment and maintaining equipment integrity.
•Coordinating with CSX with coal train deliveries.
•Direct the activities of the coal supply operators to assure safe, efficient operations.
•Assure compliance with safety and environmental procedures and policies.
•Administer switching and tagging procedure.
•Investigate and identify equipment/system deficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
•Coordinate equipment repair activities.
•Manage operator schedules.
•Perform on-call duties.
•Working with union leadership on matters involving the Working Agreement.
•Training of employees in Fuel Handling.
•Maintain conformance to Company policies and standards.
•Compliance with operating procedures and documentation.
•Coordinate the switching of train cars with our on-site train car repair facility.
•Work closely with the plant to ensure a consistent quality fuel to all the bunkers.
Requirements/Qualifications
•High School Diploma or equivalent.
•Three or more years of technical knowledge in power plant operation gained either through a technical field of study and/or through related work experience.
The following experience and skills will set you apart from others:
•5 or more years of experience in a Power House Coal Handling facility that receives coal by rail.
•Working knowledge of plant systems and equipment; heavy equipment/railroad experience.
•Command and control skills.
•Supervisory experience with power plant operations and fuel handling experience.
•An understanding of the working agreement, conflict resolution and safety and health regulations.
•SAP experience.
•Must be willing to work night shift and weekends.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the planning, organization, coordination, evaluating and supervision of the operation of the Fuel Handling Department. Recommends proposed changes and enhancements to systems and facilities operation; responds to complaints and requests for information; prepares and maintains reports of completed work orders and the status of jobs in progress. Inspects job sites to check on work progress, assure satisfactory completion and plans new assignments; prepares requisitions for operations and maintenance supplies, equipment and materials and supervises special projects as required. Conducts regular safety meetings; investigates and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records and prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies. Implement preventative maintenance programs. Participates in the day-to-day activities of Fuel Handling and the areas they support.
Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual to work a minimum of 40 hours per week with a majority of the time spent in the office or fuel handing area. Individual needs to be willing to work additional hours as necessary to meet deadlines or assist with equipment related issues and could be given very short notice to do so. Individual must be willing to participate in the 'on call' rotation. This position supports site operations which may include evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime or equipment troubleshooting. The position requires committee work with Peer assignments. Individual must have a valid driver's license.
