The Senior Technical Specialist will be responsible for the thermal calculations for new or revised automatic transmission applications and the efficiency assessment/evaluation of corporate and competitive automatic transmissions. The Specialist will also be collecting and analyzing data obtained from internal test and external customer duty cycles to be used for design calculations. He/She will run thermal simulations to calculate transmission heat generation, cooler flow, and (in some cases) sump and trans out temperatures, for various vehicle operating conditions and duty cycles. The candidate will provide specifications to Aero-Thermal group for their use in transmission oil cooler selection and sourcing and maintain and or develop short-term and long-term automatic transmission temperatures goals. He/She will work with outside suppliers in collecting transmission efficiency data for corporate production, future designs, competitive automatic transmissions and work with design release group in analyzing design changes that can improve overall all transmission efficiency. The Senior Technical Specialist provides Powertrain Simulation and Synthesis group transmission efficiency data in the proper format so they can run fuel economy and Performance simulations. The candidate determines the duty cycle envelope for each transmission family and includes but limited to time at torque for each gear, time and temperature, and counts of shifts. He/She must have strong knowledge of damage calculations based on duty cycle information and all transmission components and related failure modes for different duty cycles and create, utilize and maintain engineering best practices and develop. The Specialist will develop systems and subsystem DVPs and acquire approval from Chief Engineering and Management team and maintains required document traceability (i.e. DVP&R, DFMEA, Lessons Learned, and test reports). The candidate will develop test reports and review with key stakeholders (i.e. Management, Chief Engineering, etc.) and lead and participate in issue resolution activities during development, vehicle launch, and/or warranty periods. The Senior Technical Specialist will complete trade off studies to select best option design and lead and participate in supplier meetings/trips to support component technical reviews.
