The Functional Safety Technical Specialist will lead the COE in regards to best practice calibration approaches from subject matter experts and partner with methodology experts to deliver torque security and functional safety improvements to current and future products. This role will participate in SAE technical sessions in regards to torque security and functional safety enhancements for all powertrain application combinations. The Functional Safety Technical Specialist will provide regular overview summaries and detailed reports on specific assignments, including timing projections. It will provide technical leadership to Powertrain.
Job responsibilities include but not limited to:
•Provide technical leadership to the calibration COE
•Provide technical leadership to the calibration team as launch issues occur, and assist in complex/difficult field concerns as necessary
•Identify strategic changes required to improve overall calibration efficiency and quality
•Work with the quality team and calibration team to improve top 5 torque security calibration related issues
•Develop and implement a process with controls and advanced development to build consensus on needed projects, review project status, and hand off projects
•Mentor new calibration engineers
•Review and revise all CARB/SRM review presentations prepared by torque security calibration as needed
Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, accredited by ABET or equivalent; other undergraduate level technical degrees in the specific area of relevant specialty expertise may be considered
•6 years of total work experience, with a minimum 4 years applying specialty expertise
•Demonstrated excellence in written communication through technical publications in journals, conference proceedings and technical reports
•Demonstrated competence in the ability to direct, guide, lead and mentor significant research or technical programs
•Patents and/or evidence of innovative thinking
•Demonstrated depth and width as indicated in the description of capabilities and expertise above
•Demonstrated capacity to be key “point person” within FCA to advise and assist in developing ideas
•Strong presentation and oral communication skills
•Ability to transmit an understanding of specialty to an automotive engineering audience
Preferred Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university
•Documented history of advancing the state of the art in automatic transmission engineering
•Participation or leadership in technical societies
•Demonstrated problem solving skills
•Ability to train and coach engineers
