Summary:
Works as part of the overall rehabilitation team providing clinical services to help patients maximize their potential and independence in returning back to their community. Referrals are made to the proper disciplines within the Hospital or outside resource agency when a patient needs to go beyond the scope of what the psychologist can provide.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
* Evaluates client's condition and need for psychological services.
* Completes a thorough interview and history of the patient, with input from parents or other family members as appropriate.
* Administers and interprets psychometric tests as needed.
* Shares results and treatment implications with the referring agent and/or members of the treatment team.
* Establishes short term and long term treatment objectives for each client based on results of the interview and history, supplemented with results from neuropsychological and other psychometric testing (if applicable). Implements the treatment plan and either provides or arranges for the provision of the psychological services needed to meet the stated objectives for each client.
* Provides all necessary cognitive or behavioral instructions to the client and family throughout their involvement at Mary Free Bed, and particularly just prior to discharge.
* Provides individual, group, and family psychotherapy and behavioral management as needed.
* Provides supervision to Master's level Psychology staff and/or postdoctoral residents as needed.
* Consults with attending physician and other members of the team regarding clinical treatment and management of the client.
* Attends and participates in team conferences.
* Maintains complete, accurate, and current records of all clinical service rendered.
Other Job Responsibilities:
* Supervises students, interns, or post-doctoral fellows.
* Participates in presentations, tours, or speaking engagements when requested by chief psychologist.
* Participates in research studies as approved by chief psychologist.
Essential Job Qualifications (Knowledge, Education, and Training Requirements):
* Doctorate degree in Psychology.
* Active license in good standing with the State of Michigan.
* Physical Demands:
* Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (up to 1/3 of the time);
* To lift, carry, push, pull, up to 10 pounds occasionally;
* To sit for the majority of the time, but may involve brief periods of time involving walking or standing;
* To use keyboard frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time)
Other Preferred Job Qualifications:
* Completion of a formal postdoctoral residency in the area of specialty.
* Two years of clinical experience in an applied health care setting.
