Department Summary
The Metering Technology Center is a team of approximately 50 employees who assist in the safety, maintenance and accuracy of our Consumers Energy's 1.8 million electricity meters and our 1.7 million gas meters throughout the entire Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The Metering Technology Center (MTC) integrates with key business partners such as the Business Center, Account Managers, Customer Energy Specialist, Customer Billing, MV-90, Smart Energy Program, Electric Metering Operations and residential, commercial, and industrial customers. The Metering Technology Center is trusted to provide cost effective, safe and accurate metering to optimize company revenue while providing customer value.
Job Description/Responsibilities
The Technician III performs a variety of complex tasks and technical work requiring ingenuity as to application of normal procedures:
•Tasks performed may include the evaluation of test or survey results; troubleshooting more complex equipment and/or metering systems; developing test plans and determining specifications and designing complex test equipment or test plans.
•Consulting or advising on resolution of problems for gas metering equipment and gas metering testing equipment.
•The Technician III may coordinate work with employees in other departments and/or external agencies.
•May direct the compilation of internal or government required reports.
•The Technician III may conduct field investigations; establish various procedures; lead or train lower-level employees; and direct the preparation of work orders and time and material cost estimates for review by Company Engineers.
•Typically, the Technician III would complete tasks by interpreting data and taking corrective action within general practices, procedures and programs; but would work under general supervision while seeking advice of senior employees/supervisors only on matters not covered by policy.

Requirements/Qualifications
•Up to 3 years of basic electricity experience required, depending on level of position.
•Two-year associate degree in a scientific or technical field, or 48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis.

Essential Functions
•Programs and troubleshoots electric meters using manufacturing software; maintains and troubleshoots electronic, electrical, mechanical, and other equipment in the field of electricity metering and associated equipment.
•Consults with supervisors, operators, and engineers to review assigned area needs, discuss problems, prioritize work, and provide technical expertise.
•Repairs, calibrates and/or programs electronic components and equipment using Field Tools and other diagnostic equipment.
•Operates and maintains electronic equipment, diagnostic instruments, and software in performance of assigned duties, specifically: computers, volt meters, amp meters, electrical tools, electronic tools, and telemetering, and process control software.
•Receives reports, electrical diagrams, and correspondence; reviews, processes or; maintains documentation for reference.
•Consults with manufacturers' service technicians, contractors, and vendor representatives to discuss problems, schedule installs, and evaluate costs for necessary parts, supplies, or repairs.
•Performs other related duties as required.
•Reviews, edits, develops, manages, and interprets documents and drawings utilized for the purposes of maintaining, constructing, testing, and removing equipment and facilities for plant, electric and gas distribution and transmission systems.
