Position: Customer Service Assistant
Reports to: Supervisor, Michigan Works! Ferndale
Salary: Commensurate with Education and Experience
Location: Michigan Works! Ferndale office
Start Date: October 30, 2017 approximately
Group: Exempt
Qualifications:
- High School diploma and interested in working in a human services related area
- Ability to work with a diverse population
- Must be proficient in Microsoft computer applications and internet navigation
- School district experience and knowledge of district policies and procedures
- Must have reliable transportation
- Good communication and sales skills
- Able to give close attention to detail
- Self-motivated and comfortable speaking with people
- Must have some awareness of current labor market demands
- Punctuality and good attendance a must
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the customers in vocational exploration and job search.
- Assist customers in developing and modifying resumes and cover letters
- Computer and office machine troubleshooting and upkeep
- Provide referrals within Michigan Works and other resource agencies
- Assists customer in registering on MiTalent Connect and guiding customers through the unemployment registration process
- Assist customers in researching and utilizing career placement and labor market information
- Network with a diverse population including employers, customers and community representatives
- Teach, demonstrate and guide customers in job search techniques and posting resumes or job orders
- Work collaboratively and cooperatively with employment services and resource room staff to maintain a clean, organized and professional environment for customers.
- Monitor client computer activity
- Establish rapport and address employment needs and requests.
- Provide excellent customer service
- Meet regularly in staff meetings to review and modify procedures as appropriate.
- Assist with any department related mailings
- Works closely and cooperatively with independent auditors
- Other duties as assigned
